Bevan History
Bevan was founded in 2011 by a group of NHS clinicians and managers under the ‘Right to Request’ scheme, which enabled NHS staff to establish social enterprises to deliver community health services. Initially, Bevan focused on providing primary healthcare to sex-working women in Bradford who faced significant barriers to accessing mainstream services.
Recognising the unmet needs of these women, Bevan’s founder, Gina Rowlands, initiated a mobile clinic operating every Thursday evening, bringing primary care directly to the streets at times when women could access it.
Since then, Bevan has expanded its services to include Street Health Teams in both Leeds and Bradford, operating from fully equipped mobile clinics, GP practices in Leeds and Bradford, Specialist Hospital Teams, Migrant Health Teams, and a range of wellbeing and social prescribing services.
