Street Health Team

Our Street Health Team in Wakefield delivers high-quality, community-based healthcare to people experiencing homelessness and others facing severe social exclusion. Using our Bevan Bus, the team provides mobile clinical outreach across the city, bringing compassionate, accessible care directly to those who need it most.

This multidisciplinary team—including nurses, paramedics, and support workers—operates across a variety of settings including temporary accommodation, hostels, and community drop-ins. By working closely with the local hotel-based Migrant Health Team, we’re able to deliver a joined-up inclusion health offer that meets the needs of diverse and complex populations across Wakefield. Whether it’s clinical care, health promotion, or building trust through consistent engagement, the team is committed to breaking down barriers to healthcare access.

Our Migrant Health Teams provide responsive health and wellbeing services for vulnerable migrants housed in temporary accommodations across Yorkshire. Services include initial health screenings, mental health assessments, facilitation of access to primary care, and education on navigating the NHS. The teams collaborate with third-sector partners to ensure comprehensive support for migrants.

Interim Accommodation – Wakefield

The Interim Accommodation Support Team in Wakefield supports individuals and families living in asylum seeker hotels and other forms of temporary accommodation. This multidisciplinary team—comprising nurses, healthcare assistants, support workers, and occupational therapists—provides a full package of health and wellbeing support from the point of arrival.

The team undertakes initial health screenings, New Patient Health Checks, and delivers ongoing care and practical support tailored to the needs of each individual. While Bevan does not register patients in Wakefield, the team works closely with local GP practices to ensure seamless registration and continuity of care.

To support integration and improve emotional wellbeing, the team also facilitates a range of group activities—including peer support sessions, orientation workshops, and recreational opportunities such as football—designed to help individuals build routine, reduce isolation, and settle into life in the UK.
